The use of multiple languages is important to ensure that regions, cities or national parks are attractive to visitors from other countries. However, it is not realistically possible to have every sign posted in multiple languages. A simple solution is to have the different language versions of the sign available digitally so that the visitors can access them via NFC or QR-codes. When you scan the NFC or the QR Code you are automatically led to the website with the various languages you have available. The content is maintained online and the information can be updated at a moments notice.
A sophisticated editing system opens up many simple and effective possibilities for average users. For example, if there is a danger in a national park, rangers can temporarily change the messages on all of the signs in the park. Instead of the normal information, the users can be shown special messages and warnings.
Since 2013, all of the signs at the more than 1,300 stops of the Austrian public transportation system ÖBB Postbusse are managed via tuomi NFC Tags. Reliability is of major importance in a set-up such as this, and indeed both the online solution and the NFC chips themselves have a reliability rating of over 99 %.
